CHOLERA MEMORIAL

The images below were part of a memorial I was helping design with my team of 4. We came up with this design together for the Overleigh Cemetery in Chester, to remember the people who had lost their lives to cholera in the 1865 Chester cholera outbreak.

The centre piece took inspiration from the Highgate cemetery memorial graves for their unique architecture and how they stood out compared to all the other grave stones inside the cemetery.

The base was designed with nature in mind, incorporating a circular area around where the headstone would be for the wild flowers in the cemetery to grow and thrive around the headstone but in a way so that the flowers don't envelop it.

The design for the head stone is a big monolith-like slab where all the names of the people we know of will be engraved onto a steel plate using laser carving and then sticking said panel to the back of the monolith so that people who walk by can look at the monument and remember the people who tragically lost their lives.

This sketch shows the process of what we would do if we found more names. We would create more steel plates to place around the grave so their names would be remembered.

LIGHT AND SHADOW

This is a project I'm currently working on. It's currently unnamed but is focused around light and shadow, playing with the mystery of your back garden. All of this is stuff i found whilst sorting out my garden, the shapes and forms of these objects intrigued me.

The mystery and strange make something magical
